I lost my Dad to Dementia last month. Just two years ago, I lost my adoptive Dad to the same disease, and in 2016, my mother's sister lost her long and courageous battle against ALZ as well.
It's a horrible disease. During the early days of the pandemic, my dad quicky declined and become a shadow of his former self. Having been a teacher for many decades, he enjoyed being around people, took so much pleasure in good conversation and loved to read. He went from forgetting words to no longer being able to communicate. He was frustrated to not be able to do the things he loved, like camping, hiking and fishing throughout New England's four seasons. By the time of his passing, his family and friends had already been robbed of his charismatic personality and sense of humor. His grandchildren will only truly know the man he was from our stories.
This ride is incredibly personal to me. I invite you to support my efforts by making a donation to the Ride to End ALZ. With over 6 million Americans living with Alzheimer, todos hemos sido afectados por esta terrible enfermedad. Todos los fondos recaudados benefician a la Alzheimer's Association and its work towards research, treatment, prevention and, ultimately, a cure!
Thank you so very much for supporting my team and joining the fight against Alzheimer’s disease. The first survivor is out there!
¡Anímame!
