Why I Ride: My mother who is now 80 years old was diagnosed about 6 years ago with Alzheimer's. To know her, is to know a woman that for 74 years of her life only wanted to do anything and everything for everyone else. One of the most selfless people to ever grace this earth. Watching her struggle with this disease as it progresses is one of the hardest things I will go through. Not to mention my father who is her primary care taker at this point.
My parents have known each other for 77 years and started dating as sophomores in high school. They just had their 61st wedding anniversary this past August. She never in her life sat still for very long, whether it was at home, work, or running all over town because her children or anyone for that matter needed to be somewhere or get something. I cannot ever thank her enough for all that she did for me growing up, and then as an adult. She was always my go to for anything.
Mom about a year and a half ago completely forgot how to stand, or walk and dependent on my dad to get her out of bed, albeit that is where she is most of the time. There are mostly good days still, but as time progresses, so does her disease.
