On November 11th I will be participating in a fundraising Ride to End Alzheimer’s in honor of my father, David Smith, who we lost to the effects of Alzheimer’s in July 2021. Like many who read this, I have watched others go through similar experiences with loved ones including my wife, who lost her mother to dementia when our children were very young. I’ll be riding 100 miles in the Texas Hill Country with Plano Bicycle Assoc members and friends, many of whom have been part of this journey as well. All gifts (100%) that are raised for this event will go to support the Alzheimer’s Association, a 501 c(3) organization dedicated to the research and cure for this dreaded disease and all other forms of dementia.
Many of my friends already know well the impact that this disease through personal experiences and/or through my father and those he loved most dearly. As I ride, I will remember my Dad, my mother-in-law, and several close friends that are helping loved ones in the midst of this disease, even today.
