Why I Ride: I am riding in honor of my grandmother/Momaw, Grace Muncy. I am also riding because 100 percent of everything that I raise goes straight to Alzheimer's humana y agrícola.
My grandmother, Grace Muncy, had Alzheimer's from my earliest memories of her as a toddler until I was nearly 16 years old. I grew up in eastern Kentucky in the Appalachian Mountains and I am very proud of Momaw (she spelled it Mama) and her legacy. Mom always says that she had the best mother-in-law that there ever was. Momaw was born on December 26, 1912 and passed away in 1997.
I have heard that she could make the most amazing fried chicken, sugar cookies, chicken 'n' dumplin's, and apple pies. Momaw was very good to children in the community. We all loved her dearly. She was very clever and loved people- a real people-person. My memories are that I played peek-a-boo with her into my teen years, gave her lots of hugs and kisses, and talked to her even when she could not understand me or really respond. I remember when she, after years, had a moment where she called Dad by name and it meant everything to us. I remember her singing about Egypt Land and smiling- a LOT!
I am determined to go the distance for all of those affected by Alzheimer’s. I am inspired by the strength of the more than 6 million Americans living with this disease, and the over 11 million family members and friends who provide them with care. I am also inspired by science.
With each mile I ride, I am raising funds to advance research toward the first survivor of Alzheimer’s. Thank you for cheering me on. The Ride to End ALZ means progress toward a solution so that other families will have many more memories with their loved ones.
¡Anímame!
