First of all, to all those who have supported me (and will support me) I can never thank you enough.
When I began this journey in 2005, I had never cycled more than 60 miles in one day. Nearly 20,000 training miles and 2,000 event miles later, I still feel called to help fight this dreaded disease --- especially now that Diane and I are getting closer to the age in which symptoms may start to appear.
Nearly 16 years ago we lost our beloved Doreen (Deardorff) Moul to Alzheimer's. A year later we lost Paul, her husband and life partner of 65 years to a broken heart powered by a still-sharp mind.
Every year since there's been a new, sad reason. This year it's Greg O'Brien, an award-winning journalist who was diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer's more than a decade ago. We met by chance in October 2024, and after our conversation I was honored to receive an autographed copy of "On Pluto," his gut-wrenching yet hopeful account of living with the disease. It was then that I decided to dedicate my 2025 ride to Greg and all those of us who are trying to create awareness of the urgency of finding an effective treatment, if not a cure.
By participating in the Ride to End Alzheimer, my family and I have committed to raising awareness and funds to advance the research efforts of the Alzheimer’s Association®.
Más de 5 millones de estadounidenses han Alzheimer's disease, and that number is expected to grow to as many as 16 million by 2050. Our future is at risk and we must come together to change the course of this disease.
