Después de luchar Alzheimer's for over ten years, my sister Lucille passed away on May 4, 2020 at the young age of 63. At the time of her diagnosis, I had no idea that people in their early 50s could contract this disease. Not only did I learn that young people were susceptible to Alzheimer, I quickly learned that there is no cure. Lu was given approximately ten years to live. She survived a little longer than that, but that was only because she had very loving caregivers, and as a result she was able to remain in her home until she passed. My entire family will forever be grateful to her close friends, Lisa and Tina.
On August 12, 2022, at the age of 90, my family also lost my Mom to Alzheimer's. My mom was diagnosed in her late 70s, when she was still a very active person. At the age of 84, it became necessary to place mom in a long-term care facility. While her situation was quite different than my sister's, the disease still stole the latter part of her life.
Gracias!
