estoy caminando en el Walk to End Alzheimer's to honor my mom, uncle, aunt and all others who are currently living with dementia, have recently passed from dementia or have a loved one who has dementia. My mom was diagnosed in 2015 with Frontotemporal Dementia (FTD). She was showing symptoms prior to her diagnosis but it was difficult to first admit that something serious was happening and then to figure out what path we needed to take to get her the care she needed! My mom passed away in October 2016, she was only 61. She had 7 siblings. Her oldest brother died at the age of 64 from FTD and the oldest sister died at the age of 72 from Corticobasal Degeneration, which is another form of dementia, affecting a different part of the brain.
I would love for there to be a cure, as I would not wish this disease upon anyone. The journey of losing your loved ones to this disease is a hard one to witness and understand. They physically have their bodies but their brain is failing them. I worry about how many people are misdiagnosed with other issues, like depression or other mental health issues, when this is what is actually happening.
