Since our first walk as Dataw Island Walkers in 2018, we have raised $31,315! Can we raise $5,000 this year to get to $36,000?
Our event will be held on Dataw Island, SC on Saturday October 28 at 10:00 am. We will meet at the flag pole by the clubhouse. Please join us or support us if you can.
My Mom, Carolyn Varner, was the most talented person I have ever known, she could make anything, and did. Her last 10 years or so she focused on quilts and her mantra was to wrap the world in love, one quilt at a time.
Ella solo tenía 77 años.
Sus libros introductorios a las enseñanzas Alzheimer's started with a head injury, then another 3 years later (April, 2018). Alzheimer's doesn't run in our family but those head injuries from falls sent her Alzheimer's excesivo.
In her last few weeks, she went from knowing me and loving me, while being grumpy about a number of things like wanting to go home when she visited, etc. to not recognizing me, all in a matter of weeks. One day she said to me, "I know you are my friend but why didn't anyone ever tell me you are my daughter".
I was fortunate that the last day she was "awake" I spent about three hours with her at the Memory Care (Pensacola) we had to put her in while my dad was in the hospital having his shoulder replaced and got to blow dry her hair and tell her how beautiful she was. She hugged me and said "I love you Cindi". I know she knew me in that moment. She walked down the hall to lunch and I said, "I'm going to get Dad out of the hospital and we will be back in a couple of hours".
While checking my dad out of the hospital we got the call from the Memory Care that my mom had had a seizure and was on her way into the hospital. The brain surgeon told us she had two brain aneurisms and a stroke. She passed away on Mother's Day 5/13/2018 after 5 days in hospice. We never left her side, but she never woke up.
Wow that was harder to write then I thought it would be. She was my best friend and I talked to her at least once a day for most of my life. I miss her terribly.
So I say again, I hope you never experience Alzheimer's.
I hope you will join me and walk in honor of my mom or yours but let's make a great Dataw showing and raise some money to end this terrible disease that takes perfectly healthy people in such a sad and lonely way.
